Description
Sorrel, Rumex acetosa, belongs to the family Poligonaceae and is a plant widespread in our countryside in grassy areas, rocky and up to 2500 m altitude. It is a perennial plant with an erect stem up to 90 cm tall, reddish and very branched with oval leaves and the lower ones provided with a long petiole while the upper ones are devoid of them.
The flowers are gathered in panicles and are green – reddish.
It blooms from June to August.
Perennial plant, it can be grown both in pot and in the ground.
Sorrel plant uses fresh leaves and stems and the root.
The harvest should be carried out in May – June, before complete flowering.
l decoction and infusion for anemia, as a detoxifier, for acne and dermatitis.
Cataplasms of fresh leaves for skin irritations and insect bites.
The footbath to decongest and promote blood circulation of the feet.
In the kitchen the fresh leaves can be used as a purifying spring salad.
