Description
The Josta was obtained from the cross between the black currant (Ribes Nigrum) and gooseberry (Ribes Grossularia), capturing the best aspects of the two species. Unlike gooseberry, it has no thorns and compared to blackcurrant, it does not have the characteristic scent that could be unpleasant; resistant to the harsh winter conditions, cold, wind, frost.
The fruits of ‘JOSTA’ are dark in color similar to blackcurrant, but much larger and recall the tastes of the plants from which they originated however with a lower acidity compared to the gooseberry and a marked reduction in aroma of those of the currants black; they ripen very much in the middle of the summer and, even if ripe, remain attached to the stem and will fall only when it is overdue.
It is very rich in vitamin C, mineral salts and anthocyanins which make it an excellent natural supplement for body hydration and energy recovery, also has an antibacterial function and strengthening of the immune system.
It prefers an area in full sun or partial shade in the hottest areas, fertile and well drained soils, free from water stagnation.
