Description
Jatropha podagrica is a succulent plant from the Euphorbiaceae family. It is native to the tropical Americas but is grown as an ornamental plant in many parts of the world due to its unusual appearance.
The swollen trunk, showy leaves and colorful flowers make Jatropha Podagrica an attractive ornamental, and it is grown as an indoor plant in many parts of the world. There are many uses of J. podagrica in folk medicine, including as an analgesic, tonic, aphrodisiac, purgative, laxative, and for treating infections, intestinal worms, snakebite, gout, and more. Other uses include tanning, dyeing, soap, biofuels, fish poison, lamp lighting, and fertilizer.
Jatropha podagrica is a very ornamental species, easy to grow and suitable for any well-drained soil with bright light. It can be grown outdoors in tropical or subtropical climate zones, in full sun, or (preferably) in light shade. It is a good plant for rock gardens. Great for growing in pots, it also fits well in bright house windows.
J. podagrica is also known for its incredible ability to attract a variety of butterflies wherever it is grown.
