It is a chili pepper with a controlled designation of origin. A variety originally from Espelette on the French side of the Pyrenees. The official name is Piment d’Espelette and it is a Capsicum annuum of the popular variety Gorria. It has a length between 7 and 14 cm, quite stocky, has a conical shape and a slightly rounded pointed tip. When fully ripe it is vermilion red in color, then becomes dark red. It has a strong fruity scent and is particularly aromatic. Espelette’s economy is all based on the production and trade of this pepper to which a very interesting festival is dedicated on the last weekend of October. The celebrations, as well as by the Municipality, are organized by the Confrèrie du piment and the Syndacat du Piment d’Espelette. Low spiciness, 3,000 SHU.

Per coltivare l’Habanero occorre considerare che è un peperoncino che predilige un clima caldo e umido, simile a quello tropicale. Annaffiare al bisogno.

Once it reaches maturity it detaches from the plant, throughout the summer.

In the kitchen it is recommended in combination with braised meats and game.
