Shrub plant, evergreen. Originally from Argentina.
The fruits are black, of size and appearance of a cherry. The consistency and taste recall the American grape. They can be used for the preparation of jellies and syrups. Fructification is abundant; the seeds of the fallen fruits at the base of the tree germinate with great ease.
Flowering takes place in May-June; the ripening of the fruits from August-September to October.
The Guabiju is native to tropical areas, but at altitudes above 1000 m, so it grows well even in subtropical and warm temperate climates. The optimal temperatures for the development of Guabiju are 18-25 ° C in summer and no less than 5 ° C in winter.
