Description
Alocasia Wentii is an exotic plant with green arrowhead shaped leaves that have a dark red underside. The leaves are quite large, about 30-40 centimeters. Alocasia is also known as “elephant ear”.
Alocasia wentii is a cross between the two cultivars ‘Alocasia odora’ and ‘Alocasia gageana’ from Southeast Asia. The common name for the plant is “Hardy elephant ear” and it is quite hardy indeed. The plant can reach a height of 1-1.5 meters. Like most alocasias, the plant has a so-called “drip tip” along which rainwater drips off neatly.
The Alocasia Wentii fits well both indoors and outdoors. Choose a bright spot out of direct sunlight. Keep the soil moist. Do not let the soil dry out, water it regularly. ‘”Preferably with lukewarm water with low calcium content”. Spray the leaf often to compensate for the dry air in the house. Dry air or direct sunlight can cause leaves to discolour. In the growing season from April to September you can give the plant some extra nutrition once a month.
